LOGIC GENERAL
In some respects, Logic General was born as the result of a survey.
In 1988, when a survey to the Portland software marketplace revealed a need for top-quality, quick-turn media duplication, Logic General stepped in to fill the need.
Today, twelve years later, Logic General is replicating more than 60,000 CDs per day in their 70,000 square foot facility. Sixty full-time employees provide Logic General clients with turnkey solutions in the arena of CD, DVD and CD-R duplication, digital business cards, tape and diskette duplication, warehousing, assembly, fulfillment and distribution.
In fact, the current demand for mini-CDs or business card CDs has grown so large that Logic General has expanded their facility to accommodate an in-house department devoted to molding and cutting the specialty CDs.
"Our internal engineering team designed a state-of-the-art business card cutting machine that is superior to the competition and the first digital business card cutting machine brought into the Portland market," said Ned Hammond, Logic General's CEO. "With the addition of the cutting equipment, Logic has eliminated the quality issues that are inherent when cutting a CD...it has shortened the link in the supply chain by offering our customers a complete turnkey solution."
Logic General is also expanding its media replication services to include in-house DVD replication by Fall, 2000, but, according to Hammond, the company is as concerned about conserving as they are about expanding. The ISO 9002-certified company has built into its corporate mission statement a commitment to both the local community and to the environment. The company currently utilizes the services of St. Vincent DePaul employees in their product recycling department and looks for new opportunities in both recycling and resource management. "We desire to be a leader in preserving our environment for future generations," said Hammond, "and believe that each contribution, regardless of size, brings us closer to that goal."

QMEDIA
QMedias vision leads to growth and acquisitions
Bob Lawrie came up with a business model in 1986 while working in sales and marketing for a law book publisher when there was talk of putting law book reports on CD-ROM. As I started looking into it, I saw that software companies in particular had a production requirement and if they were doing it in-house it was a real hassle because the volumes were unpredictable. You had to do 1,000 today and 20,000 tomorrow. It was hard to manage that kind of work remarked Lawrie, now President and CEO of QMedia. After successful business development in the Vancouver market the company decided that in order to grow further it would need to be in the U.S. market. In 1994, the company developed a strategic growth plan and began acquiring successful localized software manufacturing companies.
QMedias philosophy according to Lawrie, is to provide locally based customers with high quality products and fast turn-times. The company purchased Redmonds own PAC Services, Austin, TX-based Digimidia, and facilities in Newark and Irvine, CA. Last year, in order to support growing business with a large OEM, the company opened a facility in Nashville, TN. The company recently finalized the purchase of Quebecor Integrated Media in Fife, WA, doubling CD-ROM capacity, adding in-house print capabilities and essentially doubling revenues. The company will also retain QIMs Microsoft Authorized Replicator and Fulfillment Center designations. All of its facilities are currently ISO9002 registered.
The acquisition of Quebecor Integrated Media positions QMedia as a vertically integrated company offering the following in-house services: CD-ROM Manufacturing, product assembly, order management, inventory management, e-commerce, disk duplication, distribution and fulfillment.
The purchase will help QMedia realize sales projected to be in excess of 200 million in fiscal 2001. QMedias customer profile include software companies, OEMs, and corporate customers ranging from telephone to insurance.
The corporation has been supportive in helping us to provide PAC Services clients with solutions to help manage their business remarks Jim Gibons, Client Services Manager, PAC Services. Both PAC Services and Quebecor Integrated Media customers will benefit by combined synergies between the facilities. New clients will benefit in our ability to extend additional capacity and services. We are excited about the future and the position of QMedia in the marketplace.
